Morning everyone,
Today’s workplace topic is mental wellbeing, attitude at work, and looking out for each other as a team.
Retail can be stressful at times — busy customers, freight, time pressure, personal life stress, lack of sleep, and general life stuff can all affect how people show up at work.
This isn’t about expecting everyone to be happy all the time. Everyone has off days sometimes.
What is important is being aware of:
• How stress or frustration can affect your attitude and communication
• How the way we speak to each other affects the workplace
• Checking in on coworkers if someone seems unusually flat, overwhelmed, or withdrawn
• Asking for support early if things are becoming too much
A few reminders:
• Tone matters, even during stressful moments
• Small comments can affect people more than we realise
• If someone seems stressed, a simple “you alright?” can go a long way
• It’s okay to take a moment and reset rather than snapping at people
• We spend a large amount of time together at work, so how we treat each other matters
We also have access to an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through Wisdom Wellbeing.
This service is:
• Free for staff
• Confidential
• Available if you need support, advice, or someone independent to talk to
You do not need to be in a crisis situation to use it.
Example:
Sometimes people don’t even realise stress is showing through in their tone or attitude until someone points it out respectfully.
Task/discussion:
• What helps create a better atmosphere at work?
• What are some ways we can support each other during busy or stressful periods?
• Are there things we already do well as a team?
The goal isn’t to force positivity — it’s just building a workplace where people feel respected and supported while still getting the job done.
