Sick Leave & Shift Notification Procedure
If you are unable to attend work due to illness, you must notify the business as soon as possible by submitting your leave through the Tanda app.
This allows management to arrange shift cover, assess any workplace health risks and ensure everyone is accounted for.
Submitting Sick Leave in Tanda
- Open the Tanda app.
- Tap the Leave icon (airplane) at the bottom of the screen.
- Select Add Leave.
- Enter the dates you will be absent.
- In the notes, include:
- The reason you are unable to attend work.
- Whether your illness is contagious and youve been at work the day before (for example: influenza, COVID-19, gastroenteritis, conjunctivitis, hepatitis or another contagious illness).
- When you expect to return to work.
- Whether you have seen or will be seeing a doctor.
Please submit your leave as early as possible so managers have enough time to arrange shift coverage.
Contagious Illnesses
It is important to list contagious illness because this information allows us to:
- Assess any risk to other staff and customers.
- Arrange additional cleaning and sanitising of shared work areas, equipment and amenities where required.
- Meet our workplace health and safety obligations.
It is important to know, for example, you are not authorised to return to work untill 24h from your last gastro symptom. We don't want your germs at work, so we know to make sure youre not rostered.
Only the information necessary to manage the workplace safely is required.
Medical Certificates
A medical certificate will generally be required if you are sick:
- On the last scheduled shift before your days off.
- Immediately before or during approved annual leave.
- On a Monday.
- On a weekend.
- If you are a full-time employee and have exhausted your paid personal (sick) leave.
Management may request a medical certificate in other circumstances where appropriate.
Weekend Shifts
If you are unable to work a weekend shift, you are encouraged to post in the Casuals Chat to see if another team member is available to cover your shift.
If you are available to take a shift:
- Comment in the chat confirming you can work.
- Attend the workplace at the agreed start time.
- Management are unlikely to check it at 10pm the night before and approve. So if you can take it you can comment in the chat and show up. If the swap is more in advance you may hvae a manager achknowlege it and change the shift in advance.
The manager on duty is responsible for approving shift swaps, updating the roster where required and checking all staff on site against the roster. We are unlikely to check it at 10pm the night before and approve. So if you can take it you can comment in the chat and show up.
Failure to Attend Work
If you do not attend your scheduled shift and have not submitted leave through Tanda or otherwise notified the business, management has a duty of care to ensure your wellbeing.
The manager will:
- Attempt to contact you.
- Attempt to contact your emergency contact if you cannot be reached.
- Request a police welfare check if there are genuine concerns for your safety and neither you nor your emergency contact can be contacted.
This process exists solely to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our employees.
Important
Submitting leave through Tanda is the required process.
A text message to one or two managers does not replace submitting leave in Tanda and should only be used if additional communication is required. If you message one manager then group chat all of them as you probably don't know whos on. Messaging Natasha and Chelsea is futile if its Lisa, Wai's or Charlottes weekend.
