Morning everyone,
Today’s safety refresher is around electrical safety and checking equipment before use.
Because we use extension leads, battery chargers, vacuums, fans, label printers, power boards, and other electrical equipment throughout the store, it’s important we stay aware of damaged equipment and unsafe setups.
A few reminders:
• Don’t use damaged cords, plugs, or power boards
• Never overload power boards
• Keep liquids away from electrical equipment where possible (hence the drink policy)
• Don’t leave extension cords on the floor when not in immediate short term use
• Don’t vacuum when busy
• Report flickering, burning smells, sparks, or damaged equipment immediately
• Only use equipment for its intended purpose
Please also remember the “Keep Clear” zones around power boxes must stay clear at all times as instructed by Horizon Power.
Example:
If you notice a lead with exposed wiring or a damaged plug, don’t “just use it quickly” — tag it out and report it immediately.
Task/discussion:
Think about the electrical equipment you use during your normal shift.
Is there anything damaged, awkward, overloaded, or unsafe that we’ve become used to seeing?
A lot of electrical incidents happen because small issues are ignored over time, so speaking up early matters.
