“Alright team, just a quick one today — we haven’t touched on bullying and harassment in a while, so I wanted to bring it back up as a refresher.”
“At Karratha Adventure Sports, everyone should feel comfortable coming to work.
No one should feel intimidated, excluded, or spoken to in a way that brings them down.”
Define harassment
“Harassment can be a one-off thing —
like a comment, joke, or behaviour that makes someone feel uncomfortable or disrespected.”
“That can look like:
-
Comments about someone’s appearance
-
‘Jokes’ that don’t land
-
Excluding someone
-
Tone or language that crosses the line”
“Bullying is a bit different — it’s repeated behaviour.
It’s ongoing stuff that makes someone feel targeted, uncomfortable, or worn down.”
Examples
“Things like:
-
Repeated negative comments
-
Gossip or spreading stuff about someone
-
Deliberately leaving someone out
-
Constant criticism that’s not constructive”
“And just to be really clear — gossip falls into this.
If you’ve got a problem with someone and you’re talking about it with everyone except them, that’s gossip. That’s how issues grow instead of getting solved.”
“On the flip side — being given feedback, being pulled up on something, or being asked to do your job properly…that is not bullying. That’s part of work.”
“If something’s not okay:
-
Speak to the person if you feel comfortable
-
Or go to a manager
-
Or go to someone you trust
But don’t sit on it, and don’t let it turn into something bigger.”
“This isn’t about getting anyone in trouble — it’s about making sure we’ve got a workplace where people actually want to be. If you see something, say something.”
